No fewer than 2,000 patients in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State have benefited from a free medical outreach organised by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
The outreach, held at Gwarzo General Hospital, was part of activities marking the association’s 66th Annual General Conference and Delegates Meeting.
More than 250 medical doctors participated in the exercise, providing services ranging from consultations and minor surgical procedures to the distribution of free drugs and eyeglasses to patients from within and outside the area.
Speaking at the event, NMA President Bala Audu, represented by the 2nd Vice President, Usha Anenga, said the initiative underscores the association’s commitment to community service.
He added that the outreach also honoured the late Dr. Stella Adadevoh for her sacrifice during the 2014 Ebola outbreak in Nigeria.
Audu said the conference, themed “Bridging Research, Policy and Practice: Strengthening Nigeria’s Health System for Resilience and Equity,” is aimed at addressing key challenges in the country’s healthcare system.
The association commended the Kano State Government and other stakeholders for their support, assuring that adequate arrangements have been made for a successful conference.
In his remarks, the Kano State Chairman of the NMA, Abdulrahman Ali, described the outreach as successful and called on the state government to intensify efforts towards improving healthcare delivery.
Also speaking, Chairman of the outreach subcommittee, Muhammad Aminu Muhammad, and the Village Head of Gwarzo, Muhammad Halliru Gwarzo, lauded the initiative and urged sustained collaboration to enhance access to healthcare services.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the NMA, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.
The NMA Annual General Conference is the association’s highest decision-making platform, expected to shape policy direction and leadership priorities for Nigeria’s medical community.
