The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Kano State, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude (SAN), on Tuesday represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the conferment of the 2025 Governor of the Year Award in Lagos.
The award was presented by the Nigerian Human Rights Community (NHRC) at a ceremony held at the Oranmiyan Hall of the Airport Hotel, Lagos.
The event attracted prominent personalities, policymakers and human rights advocates from across the country, in recognition of excellence in governance and public service.
The award, received on behalf of the governor by the Commissioner for Transport, Haruna Isa Dederi, was in recognition of the administration’s performance in infrastructure development, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, transparency and inclusive governance.
Speaking at the event, Maude described the award as an affirmation of Governor Yusuf’s commitment to justice sector reforms and institutional strengthening in the state.
He said the administration’s focus on improving access to justice, upholding the rule of law and promoting accountability had continued to shape policies and interventions in the justice sector.
Maude added that the sector had witnessed renewed momentum through reforms, improved support for legal institutions and efforts to ensure timely dispensation of justice.
He, along with other government representatives, expressed appreciation to the organisers for the recognition, describing it as both encouraging and motivating.
“This recognition is not only a testament to the leadership of His Excellency, but also reflects the collective progress of the people of Kano State. It strengthens our resolve to advance justice, equity and sustainable development,” he said.
The Kano State Government dedicated the award to the people of the state and reaffirmed its commitment to policies and programmes that promote good governance and inclusive growth.
