The Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS), Kano State Command, has appealed to the Federal and State Governments to strengthen its capacity to protect forests and curb criminal activities across the state.
The service is seeking full legal recognition and increased logistical support from the government.
The NFSS State Commander, Abdullahi Al’ameen, made the appeal at a security summit held in Kano.
Al’ameen reiterated the service’s commitment to strengthening national security through enhanced collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS).
He said the summit was organised across the 36 states of the federation to promote intelligence-driven operations within Nigeria’s security architecture.
According to him, the summit was designed to provide a platform for the DSS to educate NFSS personnel on intelligence collation, analysis, and dissemination, as well as the proper handling of classified information.
“The summit will also focus on the roles of intelligence officers during ambush situations and other security operations,” he said.
The commander noted that officers from the 44 local government areas of the state participated in the summit and pledged to continue demonstrating their commitment to safeguarding communities nationwide.
Al’ameen urged participants to effectively apply the knowledge acquired at the summit and contribute significantly to making the country safer.
He also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to support the NFSS in its quest for full recognition as part of the nation’s security agencies.
He added that the service had made efforts to secure its inclusion in the country’s security framework to further enhance national security.
Also speaking, the Assistant Commandant (Operations), DSS Kano Command, Mr Sale, urged personnel not to relent in applying intelligence-driven operations when apprehending suspects.
