Wednesday First October 2025, opened a new page in political history of Nigeria otherwise called the giant of Africa as it attained 65 years of statehood
Definitely it is worth celebrating as the bulk of us were not born when the agreement was achieved
Rightly speaking from that period to date a lot of water had passed through the bridge considering the ups and downs witnessed across parts of the country
For instance we are living witness how a certain few squandered abundant wealth of the country through reckless spending while the majority were suffering and wallowing in abject poverty
The rates of killings here and there, due to communal clashes, insurgency, banditry, roads accidents, thuggery and host of others were all in our good memories
Uncountable strike actions across schools , colleges , public and private Health institutions likewise Organisations at both state and Federal levels in demand of good pay
In politics it is crystal clear how the players migrated like nomads from the opposition to the ruling parties year in year out with a view to ensuring the ends justify the means
Inflation was another huge challenge as most households failed to feed their members thrice a day as a result of the difficulties
We also experienced long queues of vehicles across fuel stations due the shortage and Arbitrarily Increase in the price of the commodity before the complete removal of the subsidy by the present administration
While in sports,in the sixty five years of our self rule we had witnessed how the country failed to feature in some international meets like the world cup in some occasions while in others like the Olympics the country despite the huge spending on the athletes they failed to win a single medal like the 1988 Seoul Olympics in Korea and the recent Paris 2024 Olympics in France
Digressing to leadership, not less than sixteen individuals including the present Head of states Bola Ahmed Tinubu steered the affairs of the country from birth to date
But it was sad to say that only a few of them have the common man in their hearts and Co incidentally died on the throne
While lam sorry to say that some of them were only good in making empty promises , bogus programmes, looting the treasury and others blaming their predecessors for ineptitude but failed to do the needful regardless of the confidence reposed on them
But as it is not over until it is over, there is still much time to amend the blunders of the past
To be honest, with zeal, commitment, determination, hard work , dedication , passion and patriotism Nigeria named after the famous River Niger by lady Lugard Madam Flora Shaw things will by no means improve for good
Happy birthday
