Rightly speaking,in Nigeria’s politics , usually history repeats itself
Definitely what transpired during the second Republic when the ruling NPN,under president Shehu Shagari and powerful party Chairman Chief Adisa Akinloye almost turned Nigeria into a single party state if not due to military Intervention is what is being experienced presently in the country
This is certain going by how Governors and Legislators from the leading opposition party are flooding the ruling APC
Just a couple of days ago Enugu State Governor Peter Mba left with his lieutenants to the APC and just yesterday his colleague of Bayelsa announced his resignation from the party although he did not announce where he will be heading to but from all indications the most likely destination will be none other party rather than the ruling party at the centre
Thus that is how things are going in the political arena and if such kind of a thing allowed to continue unabated the situation will be pretty difficult as it will turn the country to a dictatorial regime as has been the case in other climes
A similar incident almost happened during the final lap of Obasanjo’s tenure when he tried to go for third term but was strongly resisted with the support of his vice Atiku Abubakar coupled with that of ideological politicians who stood tooth and nail against the act
But as election time is fast approaching it seems things are not going in the right direction as Nigeria is the giant of Africa
it will not be a good omen for the country’s political system especially at this time that 2027 is approaching and anything that may lead to chaos should be rightly avoided in the interest of fairness, justice and good neighbourliness
The mass defection by opposition party faithful to the ruling party although it is painful to concern citizenry particularly students of politics but this will not change anything during election going by what transpired during previous instances when underdogs pulled surprises
We are of the firm belief that predestination is unchangeable and nothing is eternal as nobody would remain on the corridors of power forever
Although lam apolitical but Previous similarities across parts of the world were good examples in view of how the mighty have fallen despite the power they exercise as a simple statement says you cannot eat your cake and have it
