Nigeria’s U-18 men’s basketball team began their campaign at the African U-18 Basketball Championship qualifiers with a commanding 96-35 victory over Benin on Tuesday.
The Nigerian side delivered a dominant display at both ends of the court, combining a solid defensive performance with an efficient attacking game to outclass their West African opponents.
The 61-point win highlighted Nigeria’s superiority as the team took control from the opening tip-off, building a comfortable lead before halftime and maintaining the momentum throughout the game.
Benin struggled to break through Nigeria’s relentless defence, while the D’Tigers’ balanced scoring ensured there was no way back for their opponents.
Speaking after the match, the team’s Assistant Coach I, Sunusi Mohammed Shuaibu, popularly known as Badway, commended the players for adhering to the tactical instructions of Head Coach Michael Ikime and the technical crew.
“The players executed the game plan very well and remained disciplined throughout the match. We are happy with the performance, but our attention is now on the next game,” he said.
Nigeria will face hosts Burkina Faso today in their second match of the African U-18 Basketball Championship qualifiers.
