Over 1,000 patients have benefited from a free medical outreach organised by the Kano State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Bunkure Local Government Area.
The Chairman of the association, Dr. Abubakar Nagoma Usman, disclosed this while briefing journalists on activities lined up for this year’s Physicians’ Week, which commenced last Monday.
He said apart from treating various ailments, the association also distributed free drugs and eyeglasses to patients as part of its commitment to complementing government efforts in improving healthcare delivery in the state.
According to him, despite tight schedules and funding challenges, members of the association mobilised resources to ensure the success of the outreach.
Dr. Usman expressed appreciation to the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, and the Joud Al-Khairi Foundation for partnering with the NMA.
He called on wealthy individuals, corporate organisations and government at all levels to sustain collaboration with the association to achieve its objectives.
He also thanked all those who contributed to the hitch-free exercise, assuring that the NMA would continue to support improved healthcare delivery in Kano.
In their separate remarks, the Deputy Speaker of Bunkure Local Government, Mukhtar Ahmad Auwal; the Chief Imam of Bunkure, Shuaibu Alhassan; and the representative of the FCT Minister of State, Alhaji Umar Ubale Musa, commended the NMA for its commitment and sacrifice to humanity.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke at the event expressed gratitude to the association for the gesture.
