Rival parties in Sokoto State North Western Nigeria ,have bitterly objected the recent appointment of a lecturer at Usumanu Dan Fodiyo University Sokoto among the newly INEC commissioners by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
The parties including the ADC and NDC, described the appointment of Professor Mustapha Abdullahi who would be incharged of the North West geo political zones as nothing to write home about and unwanted
This according them was as a result of his blood relation with the incumbent Governor of the state
They explained that being the elder brother of the state chief Executive the presidency could have looked for a neutral person elsewhere not the University Don as those that would occupy the seat needs to be impartial umpires
The opposition groups posited that there were situations whereby the University Don in view of his intimate ties with the Governor was regarded as super Governor hence exercising his authority across public ministries and parastatals
They stressed that the development will not be condoned particularly as the election period is drawing nearer
But in a swift reaction over the matter, the state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Bashir Achida disregarded the condemnation over the appointment by the rival parties
The Government spokesperson, maintained that the parties were crying wolf as they are making such complaints because they are fully aware that come election time they would be defeated hands down
That according to him was their reason aimed at gaining sympathy from the larger domain
