Barau FC player Nana Abraham has revealed that he is recovering well after he and club official Jabir Hassan were attacked during the NPFL Matchday 12 encounter on Saturday at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium, Katsina.
The Barau FC medical team, led by Sani Idris, provided immediate treatment to all the victims, including player Nana Abraham, official Jabir Hassan, and some club supporters who sustained injuries during the incident.
Recall that violence erupted after Barau FC equalised through Orji Kalu in the 69th minute, forcing the match to be temporarily stop following an attack on Barau FC’s player Nana Abraham and team official Jabir Hassan.
The match was stopped for nearly ten minutes after Katsina United fans set foot in to the pitch, leaving Barau FC players unwilling to continue until their safety was guaranteed.
Nana Abraham was seen bleeding from a neck wound as officials and teammates struggled to restore calm on the field.
Speaking on Sunday morning, Nana Abraham said “Thank God I am feeling better right now. Actually, our medical team did their best in treating my injuries.”
“It’s unfortunate what happened. Football is not a war — you can either win, draw, or lose. We’ve played five home games, won one, drawn three, and lost one, nothing happened. So why should we be attacked here?” Nana Abraham added.
The encounter in Katsina was temporarily suspended as security operatives worked to restore order.
The match later resumed after the intervention of security officials and ended in a 1–1 draw.
