Kano State government has Inaugurated a Technical Committee for the development of Transport policy green paper
Speaking at the event, ,Commissioner for Transport Engr. Muhammad Ibrahim Diggol, said the committee was constituted to Improve Transportation system to go inline with best global practices .
Reviewing the draft document as well develop a full transport policy for the benefit of the state.
The Commissioner added that the thirty member committee, was mandated to ascertain, conduct general review of the entire policy plans and factor in other options where applicable based on the present perculiarities.
Other terms of reference encompass developing best possible ways on the scheme identifying missing gaps provision of affective and reliable public transportation system
In addition the committee is saddled with the responsibility of submitting a comprehensive report on the subject matter latest by the 18th of this month
On his part the state Commissioner of Environment and Climate change Alhaji Nasuru Sule Garo who spoke on the significance of constituting the technical committee called for the review of Kano State master plan in order to develop a well articulated transportation policy
In his remark a lecturer at Bayero University Kano, Professor Ibrahim Barde, said the transportation policy when Implemented will go along way in enhancing the economic growth of Kano being one of the most vibrant cities countrywide
On his part,Technical adviser on transport policy and planning to the State Governor, Dr.Nura Ibrahim Hassan, who presented a paper at the occasion applauded the foresight of the Government in revitalizing the transportation system going by how the state is densely populated
Also speaking Professor Afolabi Falola of the Department of Geography Bayero University who chaired the committee described transportation sub sector as one of the fields government should focus attention with a view to moving the state forward
He urged current administration to strive hard so as to achieve set goals in that direction.
