The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Kano Branch, has organised a free medical outreach for residents of Dala Local Government Area to commemorate the 2026 World Red Cross Day.
Speaking at the Maternal and Child Health Centre (MCH), Dala, on Thursday, the branch Executive Secretary, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi, said the outreach was organised to honour the global Red Cross movement and commemorate World Red Cross Day.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the annual event, observed every May 8, celebrates the founder of the movement, Henry Dunant, who was born on May 8, 1828.
NAN also reports that this year’s theme is: “United for Humanity.”
Abdullahi said the outreach targets about 1,500 beneficiaries within the community.
“We have mobilised resources to provide free medical services to 1,500 beneficiaries in Dala LGA in support of the Kano State Government’s healthcare efforts.
“The planned interventions include hepatitis screening for 200 people, genotype tests for 100 beneficiaries, rapid malaria diagnosis for 200 people, and tuberculosis screening for 1,000 beneficiaries.
“Beneficiaries will also receive outpatient consultation, counselling, reading glasses, and diabetes screening free of charge,” he said.
He noted that the turnout had been impressive, with many beneficiaries receiving treatment, medical tests, prescriptions, and eyeglasses to support their daily activities.
According to him, the outreach was made possible through the support of volunteers who contributed funds and medical supplies to ensure its success.
“This initiative reflects the society’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities through humanitarian service,” he said.
Abdullahi added that the society plans to extend similar services to other local government areas to reach more people.
NAN reports that similar outreaches were held last year in Gwale and Nassarawa local government areas.
